More than just Salad!!!
A look at the finer side of vegetarian cuisine; If you've ever brought up vegetarianism in the company of a non-vegetarian, you've more than likely heard veggie diets referred to as “rabbit food”. It's a common misconception that vegetarian diets are bland and boring. They're more than just salad!
While salads are certainly a delicious and nutritious addition to any meal plan, they are far from the only option in vegetarian cuisine. Vegetarian diets offer some of the most diverse meals and food choices of any style of eating.
Stir fry is an excellent example of a total vegetarian meal that's flavorful and delicious. It's also easy to prepare, and completely customizable depending on your preferences. Don't like mushrooms? Leave 'em out! Love green peppers? Toss in some more! How about some vegetable lasagna? This meatless version of an Italian classic is delectable, and will be sure to keep you coming back for more.
There are so many things that you can do with a vegetable. The different ways that they can be prepared and served are nearly endless. Baked zucchini chips, deep fried okra, grilled corn, steamed broccoli, raw carrots, stewed tomatoes, squash casserole, or potato soup... no matter which way you slice it, vegetables are delicious.
It's not just vegetables, either. Don't discount the wide range of fruits, nuts, and grains at your fingertips. Rice and pasta are two of the easiest foods to work with. Simply boil them up and throw together a quick sauce, toss in some vegetables, and sit back and enjoy a filling and tasty dish. Need a quick snack? Grab a handful of cashews or almonds and enjoy a yummy, crunchy treat. If you're itching for something sweet, grab a few juicy strawberries or kiwi fruits to satisfy your sugar craving in a much healthier way than cakes or chocolates.
An excellent alternative to meat that many people don't consider is TVP, or textured vegetable protein. While this may not sound appetizing, it adds wonderful texture to meals. Chili made with TVP is absolutely scrumptious. If you didn't tell your carnivorous friends that it wasn't beef, they'd never even know. Tofu, when prepared correctly, is another excellent meat alternative, and can be prepared and eaten like a steak, with the proper seasoning.
